Restaurants, Cafés and Grocers

Launceston is one of Australia’s finest food destinations and has been recognised by UNESCO as one of only two Australian cities included in the world’s Cities of Gastronomy.

During your stay, we’d love for you to sample our fresh produce and make full use of La Banque’s fully equipped kitchen.

If you miss the Harvest Market on Saturday, here are some of our favourite spots to help you forage for the best produce you’ll ever taste:

Casalinga Butcher: Located on the corner of Charles and Elizabeth Streets, this is our favourite butcher in town. Be sure to stop by and chat with Rob and his team, who are passionate about crafting the most delicious cuts of meat and small goods.

Hammond Fish Monger: A great choice for fresh seafood.

Young’s Vegie Shed: A Launceston institution, this produce haven is just a short walk over the river.

IGA Express: Just a few metres away, this is perfect for picking up staples to complement your fresh produce haul.

Cultural supermarkets and grocers: A short drive north of La Banque, these stores offer a variety of international ingredients.

Café options nearby

Swamp Café: Ideal for breakfast or lunch, just a 2-minute walk away.

Manubread: Known for its artisanal breads, this small bakery supplies many of Launceston’s grocers but also has its own lovely café. It’s just a 4-minute walk – simply turn right onto Invermay Rd, and you’ll find it just before the independent Star Theatre cinema.

Star Theatre: An independent cinema with its own café. Awesome atmosphere, great for coffee and cake, or a quick bite before watching a film.

Dining in Invermay

Blue Social Eatery: Located between the museum and University. A 5-minute walk away and great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is owned and managed by the same restaurateur as the Mudbar.
